Ramona Geraldine Quimby is the main protagonist of the Ramona series and is the daughter of Robert Quimby and Dorothy Quimby. She has an older sister, Beatrice "Beezus", and a younger sister, Roberta. Her "1st best friend" is Howie Kemp.

Personality[]

Ramona is a dreamer with an "overactive imagination". She says, "it makes the fun parts funner and the scary parts scarier, its good to scare yourself once in a while."

Ramona hates being a younger sister. She is the complete opposite of her older sister, Beezus, who shares room with her (until a new room is built, in Ramona the Brave). Beezus is smart and always gets A's and everybody loves her. Ramona isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer and doesn't pay attention to her teacher, Mrs. Meechem.

Ramona likes to be excited, unlike Howie Kemp. She mildly dislikes him for that reason. Ramona is also shown to be somewhat arrogant in Ramona the Pest, as she thought she was brave to hide from the substitute teacher and expected praise.

In the books[]

When Ramona's father loses his job, she tries to make money for the house. She started by selling lemonade. Her first costumer was Henry Huggins, who her sister Beezus has a crush on. Ramona decided to wash cars instead of selling lemonade after her sister took a sip, realized that there was a fly in her mouth, and sprayed the "delishus" drink all over Henry. When she started the car wash business, she never got any costumers then her Aunt Bea's high school boyfriend Hobart who, decided to give Ramona $100 for washing his old jeep but for one condition, her auntie chats with him inside until the car wash is done, it turned out bad, Ramona accidentally removed the sandbag which accidently caused the car to go back, crashed into Howard's garage and the buckets of paint that were on the shelf  fell on the car, the car was colored in tons of different colors, Ramona's parents had to pay to fix the car, but then Hobart decided to not take money and fix the car (Only to interest her Aunt Bea). When her sister Beezus Quimby is home, Ramona throws a party with all her friends. During the party, the house gets wrecked and Ramona wears pink rabbit ears and hops like a rabbit. Beezus Quimby becomes angered.

When Ramona starts kindergarten, her teacher says she is present. Ramona thinks this means that the teacher likes her so she is getting a present. But, she sees a girl with curls that would bounce if she pulled them. Ramona wants to pull her hair. But then, a game of duck-duck-goose starts. Ramona focuses strictly on the present. After the game, Ramona asks the teacher if she is getting a present because she said so. The teacher tells her that present just meant that she was there and that sitting in her seat during the present means sitting there for now. Ramona is disappointed.

Ramona wants a toy truck. Beezus Quimby says that girls should like quiet things. Ramona doesn’t listen.

In the movie[]

After seeing a commercial for hamburgers featuring a child actress, Ramona asks Beezus Quimby how much the child actor is paid. Beezus Quimby says that he gets paid thousands of dollars. So, Ramona tells her that she wants to be in a commercial too. Just her luck, a peanut butter commercial shooting in town needs a girl Ramona's age to play a princess. So, Ramona dresses as a princess and Beezus Quimby drives her to the building where the commercial is being shot. But, Ramona gets burs in her hair in the parking lot! Beezus Quimby tries to remove them with no luck. But, they go inside anyway. Once inside, Ramona wrecks the set and is out of the shooting before the cameraman started filming.

Relationships[]

Beezus Quimby[]

Beatrice "Beezus" Quimby is about 5 or 6 years older than Ramona. She is annoyed with Ramona but still cares about her. For example, she tolerates her and tries to help her. When Ramona makes a mess, she cleans it up. The nickname "Beezus" was given to Beatrice by Ramona when she was a baby because Ramona couldn’t pronounce "Beatrice".

Howie Kemp[]

Howie is Ramona's best friend, though they still annoy each other on occasion. Howie, for instance, is less imaginative than Ramona, which often causes conflict between the two, and Ramona doesn't like staying with him due to finding Mrs. Kemp (Howie’s grandmother) and Willa Jean (Howie’s baby sister) annoying. Despite this, they remain best friends throughout the series.

Susan Kushner[]

Susan and Ramona don’t get along. This is usually due to Susan's snobby attitude and perfectionism, but they have also come to blows because of Ramona pulling Susan's beautiful curly hair, Susan plagiarizing Ramona's paper owl and other such incidents.

Davy[]

Ramona likes Davy, but Davy doesn't have much to do with Ramona. When Davy had trouble learning to read, Ramona tried to help him, which caused her teacher to believe Ramona needed to "keep her hands to herself". At age five, Ramona had a mild crush on Davy and wanted to kiss him. They have a slight teasing relationship in "Ramona and Her Mother", wherein Davy calls Ramona fat and she responds with "I had a big breakfast, Davy-in-the-gravy".

Danny[]

Danny (aka Yard Ape) and Ramona have a complicated relationship. He gives her rude nicknames, such as "Superfoot" and "Egghead", which she finds kind of amusing and likes to sass him back, but at the same time she can also find the nicknames annoying or embarrassing. It's sometimes hinted that he has a crush on her or vice versa, but it's left very ambiguous.

Daisy Kidd[]

Daisy is Ramona's other best friend, next to Howie, whom she met in "Ramona's World". The two enjoy spending time together and Ramona is very interested in Daisy's habits, such as vacuuming her cat.

Aunt Bea[]

Aunt Bea is one of the few adults who has very little negative actions with Ramona and sympathizes when the latter is in a bad mood rather than seeing her as annoying for it. Part of this is due to being a younger sister herself, and so sympathising with Ramona during the latter's tiffs with Beezus. She often gives Ramona pep talks and/or advice when Ramona is feeling down.

Mrs. Kemp[]

Ramona and Mrs. Kemp don’t get along. Part of this is that Mrs. Kemp always blames Ramona for things that were actually Willa Jean's fault, but even when Willa Jean isn't involved, Mrs. Kemp tends to be rather bitter, dismissive and bossy towards Ramona.

Willa Jean Kemp[]

While Willa Jean likes to play with Ramona, Ramona doesn't much like Willa Jean. Part of this is due to Mrs. Kemp's aforementioned tendency to blame Ramona for things Willa Jean did, but another part of it is that Willa Jean often ropes Ramona into games that Ramona doesn't like, or interrupts her and Howie when they're playing their own games. An example of this is when Howie and Ramona play checkers, Willa Jean will often derail it into a stacking game.

Roberta Quimby[]

Before Roberta was born, Ramona was a little nervous of the prospect of no longer being the youngest, and when Roberta was first born, Ramona thought she looked somewhat ugly. Despite this, however, Ramona happily took on her role as older sister and cheered up Roberta when she was sad. Roberta also makes attempts to say Ramona's name, but pronounces it "Momo".
